EPL: He’ll work with Potter – Romano reveals Chelsea’s next sporting director

Fabrizio Romano, a football transfer analyst, has stated that Chelsea and Red Bull Salzburg are close to finalizing a deal for the hiring of Christoph Freund as their new sports director.

Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, is searching for a sporting director to collaborate with Potter, who recently took over as manager from Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea is currently operating without a sporting director, but after Potter emphasized the significance of the position after closely collaborating with Dan Ashworth during his time at Brighton, Chelsea now wants to hire one.

Romano claims that Freund will work at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea coach Graham Potter.

On Sunday, he revealed this in a tweet posted on his Twitter account.

Chelsea are about to settle on personal terms with Christoph Freund as their next director, Romano tweeted.

"Discussions are ongoing with Salzburg to sign it soon. Freund is the brains, information, and talent behind high-profile deals like (Erling) Haaland, (Sadio) Mane, (Naby) Keita, and (Dayot) Upamecano. He and Potter will collaborate.

Freund also said earlier this week that he has spoken with Chelsea.

"You should never rule anything out in football," Freund said, according to Daily Mail and Sky Sports Austria. "Chelsea are such a huge club. There have been a few conversations I've had with them. They were interested in (Benjamin) Sesko, which is why we communicated more frequently a month or two ago.
