6 drown in River Offin after a canoe capsized

Residents of Amansie South have been left in a state of shock after six(6)people got drowned on the River Offin while travelling on a canoe.

According to information available to this website, the incident happened at Kanyago and Muano all in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti region.

Residents say the victims got drowned as a result of using defective canoes on the coffin river.

According to them, they have complained to the leadership in their District about the state of canoes used on the river, nothing has been done about it hence killing people whose contribution to the development of the area could have been immense.

Mr. Yaw Amoako Baafi, a former Deputy National Lottery Authority (NLA ) Director who is part of the rescue team has expressed his disappointment at the avoidable deaths on the river.

He indicates that leaders in the District need to be up and doing to ensure the safety of the people.

“If you say I’m disappointed it will be an understatement. Six people have drowned in the coffin river and nothing has been done about it. The leadership in the region is unperturbed; very worrying development. There should be reports sent to the right quarters to ensure that the right thing is done,” he said.
