30% pay cut of appointees a manifestation Ghana has been robbed enough – MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central, Samson Tambongu Chiragia has revealed that the decision by the President to cut the salaries of his appointees by 30% is enough evidence they have milked the country enough.

He argued that there is suffering in Ghana which is not peculiar to the ordinary citizenry but appointees as well.

“We all agree in Ghana our salaries are not good. So if they can reduce their salary by 30% it goes to confirm that they have robbed this country enough. As for them for the next 10 years, they can even live without salaries.” He revealed this on Bolgatanga-based A1 radio.

Nonetheless, he wants a proper account rendered for the 30% cut from salaries of appointees after a year to show that it was just not lip service.

“They should tell you for a year how much we will get from that 30% that the appointees are losing. Apart from that is just a normal story that they try to just put dust into people’s eyes. You cannot be flying jet everywhere and you think that you can go and reduce your salary by 30%,” he added.

It would be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  at this year’s Eid Al Adha prayers in Accra,  announced the 30% cut in salaries  to send a signal to citizens about the need to sacrifice as the country goes to the International Monetary Fund for support

“We are all going to have to make some sacrifices to afford us the space to navigate the troubled waters of the current economic difficulties. The expenditure of ministries, departments, and agencies has been cut by 30 percent. The salaries of all appointees including myself have been reduced by 30 percent. Fuel coupon allocations have been slashed by 50 percent and other expenditures suspended.” He announced.
