BREAKING News: 4 More Police Officers interdicted over anti-Islamic remarks in Islamic SHS saga

A group of 4 Police personnel monitoring the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) screen overlooking the Abrepo Highway who were captured on camera passing derogatory comments against adherents of the Mohammedan faith over the Islamic SHS students protest have been interdicted by the IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The alleged anti-Islamic commentary by the 4 Police personnel who were recording the Islamic SHS incident on a CCTV screen with a phone went viral causing anger among members of the moslem community online.

Following a high level visitation to the Palace of the Zongo Chief in Kumasi on behalf of the IGP, Senior Police officer DCOP Mohammed Suraj, Ghana Police Operations Commander, assured the Muslim leadership that the police maintains high professionality neutrality blind to religion, tribe or ehtnic group for which reason they took immediate action on the said police officer.

The DCOP revealed that the four Police officers who made tge bad statement about Muslims in the operation room during the chaos between Islamic Senior High School and the police service on Monday have since been interdicted by IGP.

DCOP Suraj told the Zongo chief IGP apologizes for not being able to come to the Palace himself when he visited the Islamic SHS.

This brings to seven, the total number of police officers interdicted over the Islamic SHS saga.

A source also hinted that for recording and releasing potential evidence in an ongoing investigation itself is equally a very serious professional misconduct for which they would have been interdicted anyway irrespective of their anti-Islamic and alleged tribalistic comments about the Islamic SHS student.

In the 2minutes 38 seconds CCTV video still circulating online, the following dialogue is heard between the officers monitoring the CCTV dashboard:

Policewoman: Have you seen their attitude [referring to students of the Islamic SHS]? Do you think if it was an Akan school they will behave that way?

Policeman: They are dirty. They are dirty!

Policewoman: Wherever these Moslems are, there is problem…

Policeman: They are dirty and like problems.

It was also revealed from the CCTV that contrary to claims the students were unarmed, some of them allegedly wielded cutlasses and sticks to confront Police.

Angry students of the Islamic SHS in Kumasi massed up on the road in protest two days earlier, as they called for the construction of speed rumps on a section of the road in front of their school due to frequent accidents involving students and teachers.

Reports indicate there was vehicular and human traffic on that stretch for more than an hour before the Police were called in to clear the road.

Over 20 students were rushed to a hospital following an ensuing clash with the Police. The personnel were deployed to the School to maintain law and order.

The Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampre led a team to the area to assess the situation. Seven police officers have now been interdicted over the incident.
